marcbekoff.jpgMarc Bekoff is a former Professor of Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and co-founder with Jane Goodall of Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (www.ethologicalethics.org). He has won many awards for his scientific research including a Guggenheim Fellowship, and is a prolific writer with more than 200 articles as well three encyclopedias to his credit.

The author or editor of numerous books, including the Encyclopedia of Animal Rights and Animal Welfare (the second edition will be published in 2009)The Ten Trusts: What We Must Do to Care for the Animals We Love (with Jane Goodall), the Encyclopedia of Animal Behavior, and the Encyclopedia of Human-Animal Relationships.  Other books include The Smile of a Dolphin, Minding AnimalsAnimal Passions and Beastly Virtues: Reflections on Redecorating NatureThe Emotional Lives of AnimalsListening to Cougar (with Cara Blessley Lowe) and Animals Matter, Animals at Play: Rules of the Game (a kid's book).

Wild Justice: The Moral Lives of Animals (Marc Bekoff and Jessica Pierce, University of Chicago Press), was published in 2009 and The Animals' Manifesto: Six Reasons For Increasing Our Compassion Footprint was published in 2010. Interviews can be found at:

In 2005 Marc was presented with The Bank One Faculty Community Service Award for the work he has done with children, senior citizens, and prisoners.

Marc has just been awarded a gold winner in the 2008 Nautilus Book Awards for his book The Emotional Lives of Animals.
